Poignant Pearls of Wisdom :
- “The end of preparation is the beginning of the journey” (p.77).
- “Exploring the meaning of the place is the key to understanding the journey. When we have learned what the place means for us, we have discovered The Way of the Traveler” (p .37).
- “If others seem indifferent to your travels, it is not because they are unconcerned about you – it is because they have not been changed by the same experiences that changed you” (p.149).
A few years back when I took a travel writing class, this was one of the recommended books that the instructor suggested we read to supplement our creative juices.
I found it to be very thought-provoking, depending on what mood you are in when you read it ideas will start flowing. The Way of the Traveler definitely prepares the reader to become a more observant writer, it helps you to hone in your skills of perception and pushes you to come out of your comfort zone and write for the reader. This book helps you to organize your thoughts and write your book, article, blog, etc. in a structured, systematic way.
